Last month, I talked about how I wanted to create a new goal for myself, a challenge. And that challenge was to push myself for a stronger and more defined core. To be honest, I stopped the heavy lifting but did incorporate longer and more difficult cardio sessions into my workouts. For example, before - I used to lift first then get on a cardio machine for 15-20 minutes to do some HIIT. But for the past 3 1/2 weeks, I have been doing cardio first thing in the morning (ex. 20 min rowing + 30 min running or a tabata styled cardio workout such as doing burpees, box jumps, jump squats etc etc back to back). Then I would hit the weights and stretch. I also have started doing yoga everyday, usually in the evening before dinner.
I think two things are helping me make this goal happen:
1) Letting everyone - such as close friends and family - know about this new goal. They motivate and inspire me to achieve certain goals once they are aware of what they are. They will be your biggest supporters!!
2) And MOST IMPORTANTLY, what I eat!!! Remember that I try to stay away from refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, fried foods, processed foods - and personally, I do not eat meat or dairy. You can't expect a beach bod if you work out like a beast and feed your body with crap. It took me years to finally realize this! Just eat clean!
3) One word: PLANKS!
I am going to continue to do a "check-in" once every month to see where I am. Stay tuned for another post like this in September!
